Benue Assembly Elects Alfred Emberger as New Speaker
The Benue State House of Assembly has elected Hon. Alfred Emberger as its new Speaker, following the resignation of his predecessor, Hon. Aondona Dajoh.
The election, which took place during an emergency plenary session on Sunday, was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Lami Danladi-Ogenyi.
Interestingly, Emberger was among the four lawmakers suspended last Friday for attempting to impeach the former Speaker.
However, at Sunday’s sitting, the House resolved to lift the suspension on the affected members, thereby clearing the path for Emberger’s emergence.
The Majority Leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer, moved the motion for the reinstatement of the four lawmakers, which was seconded by Hon. Samuel Jiji, member representing Logo Constituency.
Announcing the decision, the Deputy Speaker said:
“Following the motion raised by the Majority Leader and supported by members of the House, this House has resolved to lift the suspension of the four members.”
With the development, Hon. Emberger formally assumes the leadership of the 10th Benue State House of Assembly, succeeding Hon. Dajoh, who tendered his resignation earlier in the day.
