Warri–Itakpe Train Service Back on Track After Temporary Suspension, Says NRC

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe train service, which was recently suspended, will soon return to operation following urgent track repairs.

In a statement released by the corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC explained that the suspension was necessary to address critical sections of the track that required maintenance.

He noted that the repairs have now reached an advanced stage, paving the way for the resumption of normal train operations.

Unyimadu reassured passengers that the decision to halt service was made in the interest of safety, stressing that the NRC remains committed to providing reliable and efficient rail transportation.

He also expressed gratitude to commuters for their patience and cooperation during the period of disruption.

“The exact date for the resumption will be communicated soon,” the spokesperson added, while emphasizing that the improvements will enhance both the safety and comfort of travelers.

The Warri–Itakpe line, which has become a vital link for passengers and businesses in the South-South and North-Central regions, has faced several temporary shutdowns in recent months due to technical and operational challenges.

This latest suspension, however, was specifically tied to track maintenance aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring smooth service delivery.

With the repairs nearing completion, many passengers and stakeholders are hopeful that the line’s reopening will restore confidence in the route and provide much-needed relief for intercity travelers.
