Customs Seizes Rolls-Royce Worth ₦905m, Other Exotic Cars, Contraband Valued at Over ₦1.4bn in Ogun
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has recorded a landmark operation with the seizure of high-value luxury vehicles and various contraband items worth more than ₦1.4 billion.
Among the seized assets is a 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost, which alone carries a duty-paid value of ₦905 million. The command also intercepted a 2014 Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC, valued at ₦21 million, and a 2018 Honda Accord worth over ₦32 million.
The Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, who announced the development at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko on Thursday, said the seizures were achieved through intelligence-driven operations and strict border surveillance.
He emphasized that the command remains resolute in tackling smuggling activities across Ogun State’s borders.
“These interceptions are proof that no matter how sophisticated smugglers think they are, we will continue to uncover their tricks. The Ogun 1 Area Command will not relent in ensuring that our nation’s economy is safeguarded from saboteurs,” Comptroller Otunla declared.
In addition to the luxury vehicles, officers of the command also seized 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice, equivalent to more than seven truckloads, 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, and 105 used tyres. The duty-paid value of the combined seizures amounts to an estimated ₦1,401,531,923.95.
Comptroller Otunla further revealed that the command recorded a revenue of ₦45,054,191 in July 2025, representing a 27.47 percent increase compared to the ₦35,327,852 collected in July 2024.
According to him, the growth was made possible through tighter enforcement, inter-agency collaboration, and improved compliance from stakeholders.
The seizure of the 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost — a vehicle rarely seen on Nigerian roads — has attracted widespread attention, not only for its value but also as one of the most expensive automobile seizures made by the Customs in recent years.
Security analysts note that such seizures highlight the growing trend of smugglers attempting to traffic luxury goods through Nigeria’s porous borders.
Otunla reassured Nigerians that the seized vehicles and contraband are in Customs custody pending further investigation and legal action. He also issued a stern warning to smugglers, stressing that the service would continue to deploy intelligence and technology to frustrate their illegal trade.
“The Ogun 1 Command is more determined than ever to clamp down on illicit trade. Those who dare to engage in smuggling should know that it is only a matter of time before the law catches up with them,” he said.
With Ogun State being a notorious corridor for smuggling, the latest operation further cements the Customs Service’s determination to safeguard national revenue, protect local industries, and uphold Nigeria’s trade laws.
