Bisi Akande Pays Tribute to Late Buhari, Describes Him as Enduring Symbol of Patriotism

Former Osun State Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, has described the late President Muhammadu Buhari as a patriotic leader whose memory and impact will remain alive in Nigeria long after his passing.

Akande, who visited the Buhari family residence in Kaduna on Wednesday to condole with them, spoke glowingly of the late president’s character, recalling him as a rare figure in Nigerian politics who devoted his entire life to the service of the country.
According to Akande, Buhari embodied discipline, honesty, and selflessness—qualities that earned him the respect of Nigerians across generations. “President Buhari was not just a leader, he was a symbol of patriotism and sacrifice. He gave Nigeria everything he had, and his spirit will continue to guide this nation,” Akande said.

The APC stalwart noted that he was still in disbelief over Buhari’s death, particularly because of his last encounter with him in Daura, Katsina State.

“When I last visited him, he looked very strong, healthy, and full of life. Hearing of his death while I was outside the country came as a shock. I had to return immediately to come and pay my respects to the family,” he added.

Akande praised Buhari’s leadership style, stressing that his influence went beyond politics. He described him as a “rare gift to Nigeria” whose honesty and unwavering commitment to national progress will remain a reference point for future generations.

In his response, Yusuf Buhari, the eldest son of the late president, expressed gratitude to Akande and his delegation for their condolence visit. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians across different walks of life for standing with the family during the period of mourning.

“Our father lived for integrity, discipline, and service to humanity. We are consoled by the love and prayers we have received from Nigerians and the honour accorded to him even in death. It is our duty as his children to preserve those values he stood for,” Yusuf stated.

Chief Akande’s tribute adds to the wave of national mourning and tributes that have followed Buhari’s death. Political leaders, community figures, and ordinary Nigerians alike have continued to reflect on his life, his service, and the imprint he left on the country.
