Senator Wadada Resigns from SDP Amid Internal Crisis, Hints at Possible Return to APC

The senator representing Nasarawa West, Ahmed Wadada, has formally resigned his membership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

His resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the party’s Tudun Ward in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, dated Thursday and sighted by the News Agency of Nigeria.

The letter, titled “Notification of resignation from the Social Democratic Party (SDP)”, stated that his decision was influenced by persistent internal wrangling within the party.

“I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), effective immediately,” the senator said. “This decision has not been taken lightly but I feel compelled to do so due to the lingering internal crisis that has plagued our party for some time. As you are aware, these internal conflicts have led to serious division and litigations within the party.”

Wadada expressed gratitude for the opportunities and relationships built during his time in the SDP but maintained that it was time to move on and “explore new avenues.”

His resignation comes shortly after he openly declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Following a recent visit to the State House, the senator dismissed suggestions that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could produce a leader capable of outperforming Tinubu.

Wadada also hinted at a possible return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), recalling his political journey from serving as a national officer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to joining the APC and later defecting to the SDP.

He clarified, however, that his decision to leave the SDP was not borne out of grievances with the party but was instead a reflection of “the dynamism of life.”
