Umahi Insists Coastal Highway Has Enough Drainage Systems

Minister of Works, David Umahi has refuted allegations of inadequate drainage systems on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
The minister repudiated the claims on Monday while inspecting the coastal highway and various bridges in Lagos State.
Umahi asserted that the coastal highway project incorporates a dual underground drainage system spanning 750 kilometers.
“Some claim there is an absence of a drainage system. I am perplexed by the tendency to propagate misinformation. It is exceedingly detrimental.
“We possess a dual underground drainage system extending 750 kilometers, totaling 1500 kilometers. The pipes are visible,” Umahi stated.
He lauded the contractor, Hitech Construction Ltd., and the project supervisors for upholding the safety and durability of the coastal highway.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway stretches 750 kilometers.
This highway represents a significant infrastructure endeavor, aiming to link Lagos to Calabar, traversing nine coastal states.
The highway construction commenced in March 2024, with the initial phase covering 47.47 kilometers within Lagos.
The project will boast a six-lane highway, constructed with concrete, featuring a flood-resistant design and solar-powered streetlights.
Additionally, it will include a train system, modern toll gates, and closed-circuit television surveillance, among other features.
