Police Commence Free Distribution of Uniforms to Officers Nationwide

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced the free distribution of uniforms to its personnel across various zones of the country, in a move aimed at boosting welfare and ensuring a more professional outlook within the force.
The development was confirmed on Tuesday through the Force’s official communication channels, following approval by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
According to the police authorities, the exercise will see thousands of officers in different commands receive new sets of uniforms and kits at no cost.
The initiative is part of a broader welfare reform within the force. In previous years, many officers had raised concerns over having to purchase their uniforms and accoutrements from personal earnings, despite the financial strain.
The current measure is intended to relieve that burden while projecting a better image of the Nigerian Police before the public.
Egbetokun, while approving the exercise, stressed that adequate kitting and improved welfare were key to raising morale and professionalism among rank-and-file officers. He assured that the distribution process would be continuous, covering all commands nationwide and ensuring fairness in allocation.
Observers say the move signals a departure from past neglect and could improve discipline, public confidence, and operational efficiency. It also aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places emphasis on strengthening national security institutions through reforms that improve staff welfare and accountability.
The distribution has already begun in some zones, with more expected to receive their uniforms in the coming days. For many officers, this marks a long-awaited relief from the burden of self-procurement and a sign that welfare issues within the police force are being taken more seriously.
