Sadiq Umar’s Future in Limbo as Real Sociedad Coach Keeps Silent on Plans

The future of Nigerian striker, Sadiq Umar at Real Sociedad remains uncertain despite reports suggesting he is still part of the club’s plans.

Recent developments, however, point towards a possible exit, with the forward left out of key pre-season activities.

Sadiq, who joined Sociedad from Almería in 2022, was omitted from the club’s pre-season tour of Japan and also failed to feature in friendlies against sides like Pau FC and Osasuna.

The repeated exclusions have raised questions about whether he still fits into coach Sergio Francisco’s tactical vision.

Club president Jokin Aperribay has added to the speculation, noting that while the striker “is training well” and has “not been ruled out yet,” there are no firm assurances about his future at the Basque outfit.

The comment has been interpreted by many as keeping the door open for a potential transfer before the close of the summer window.

Spanish reports indicate that Valencia are monitoring the situation closely, with a possible move on the cards if Sociedad are willing to adjust their €8–9 million valuation. A return to Almería has also been floated as an option.

For now, Sadiq continues to train with Sociedad, but his omission from the coach’s immediate plans suggests that a departure could be imminent. As the transfer window draws to a close, his future in La Liga will likely be decided in the coming weeks.
