Be Prudent in Your Political Discourse, Mumuni Counsels Babachir Lawal

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has addressed recent comments made by Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, concerning President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In a statement released Saturday, Mumuni urged Lawal to engage in political discourse with prudence and accountability. He emphasized that while criticism is an essential element of democratic participation, it should be articulated in a way that fosters constructive dialogue.

This response comes in the wake of Lawal’s recent interview, where he issued strong criticisms of the current administration’s policies and direction.

Mumuni cautioned that such remarks, if not thoughtfully considered, might undermine the broader goals of national unity and governance.

Entitled “Babachir Lawal: A Call for Reflection and Responsibility,” Mumuni’s statement underscored the significance of temperate discourse within a democratic society.

“It is crucial to acknowledge the power of our words, particularly in the political sphere where public perception is paramount,” he stated.

Mumuni, a former member of the intelligence and security team for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), recalled past interactions with Lawal during political engagements leading up to the 2023 general elections.

“We engaged in conversations and discussions concerning ambitions and national progress. It is vital to preserve the spirit of those dialogues,” he remarked.

He further urged Lawal to contemplate the enduring effects of public declarations and their potential influence on public opinion and political stability.

“Let us partake in dialogues that elevate and unify rather than divide,”

Mumuni advised, advocating for a political climate grounded in mutual respect and national interest.
