FG Reaffirms Commitment to World-Class Transportation Education as FUT Daura Matriculates 529 Students

The Federal Government has restated its commitment to producing globally competitive graduates, particularly in the transportation sector, as 529 students were matriculated on Saturday at the Federal University of Transportation (FUT), Daura, Katsina State.
Speaking at the institution’s 2nd matriculation ceremony, the Minister of Transportation, Senator Said Ahmed Alkali, said the present administration is determined to nurture experts who will transform Nigeria’s transport sector into an economic pride.
“It is our hope and aspiration to produce graduates of the highest quality who can compete favorably with others across the world.
We will deliver on our mandate to disseminate specialised knowledge in all modes of transportation, producing Nigerian experts who will drive policies, laws, and industry practices for national growth,” he said.
The minister, who conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s congratulations to the university community, described FUT Daura as a “historic institution” and the first specialised transportation university in Nigeria and Africa.
He urged the matriculating students to take their studies seriously, noting that they had been given a rare opportunity.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, explained that the university was established to safeguard and sustain the huge investments in Nigeria’s transport sector, particularly the railway system.
He highlighted the role of CCECC Nigeria Limited in supporting the university’s take-off by providing classrooms, laboratories, workshops, and dormitories as part of its corporate social responsibility from the Lagos-Kano Railway Modernisation Project.
Prof. Katsayal outlined FUT Daura’s expansion plans, which include; developing lecture halls, laboratories, and student accommodations in line with its campus master plan, introducing smart classrooms, virtual learning platforms, and green campus initiatives, expanding academic offerings to include transportation security, aviation technology, smart transport systems, and sustainable urban mobility, strengthening research in autonomous vehicles, green logistics, and industry-driven innovation.
He added that the university would soon roll out executive and short courses for working professionals while intensifying partnerships with industry players to enhance employment opportunities for graduates.
