Plateau Now Safer Than Many Nigerian States, Boasts Mutfwang on Security Gains

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has declared Plateau State as one of the safest states in Nigeria, insisting that the state’s security situation has significantly improved under his watch.

Speaking in Jos, the governor noted that while Plateau has experienced its share of violent incidents in the past, the narrative is changing. He stressed that no Local Government Area (LGA) in Plateau is completely inaccessible due to criminal activities — a situation he said is not the same in several other parts of the country.

He pointed to Wase LGA, once notorious for insecurity, as a success story. “Wase, which used to be a major security flashpoint, has been substantially reclaimed. Today, the area’s vast grazing reserve is open for investment,” Mutfwang said, underscoring his administration’s efforts to restore law and order.

One of his first actions upon assuming office in May 2023 was to revive the State Security Council, which had been dormant for almost a year.

According to the governor, this move reestablished vital coordination between state authorities and federal security agencies, improving intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.

Mutfwang also highlighted the revitalization of Operation Rainbow, a state-backed security outfit that works in close synergy with the military, police, and other agencies to respond swiftly to emerging threats.

While acknowledging that occasional attacks still occur in parts of the state, the governor maintained that Plateau’s security outlook is now far more stable than in many Nigerian states. He credited this progress to proactive interventions, intelligence-driven operations, and the cooperation of communities.

The governor further commended the media for its role in promoting peace and shaping public perception, urging journalists to project stories that build confidence and attract investment into the state.

“Plateau is on the right track,” Mutfwang declared. “We will continue to consolidate on these gains until peace becomes permanent across all our communities.”
