Former Rep Criticizes FG’s Decision to Engage Kwam 1 as Airport Security Ambassador

A former member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has slammed the Federal Government’s decision to consider Fuji musician Wasiu Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, as an ambassador for airport security protocols.

Bagos expressed concerns that rewarding individuals with questionable airport behavior could encourage others to misbehave.

Kwam 1 was involved in a controversy at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where he allegedly attempted to board a ValueJet flight with a flask containing more than the permitted amount of liquid.

The substance was later confirmed to be alcohol, contrary to Kwam 1’s claim that it was water. The incident led to a six-month no-fly ban imposed by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo.

Bagos questioned the logic behind appointing individuals with questionable airport behavior as ambassadors for airport security protocols. He stressed that this decision could send the wrong message to the public, encouraging others to misbehave in the hope of gaining similar recognition.

Bagos emphasized the need for increased passenger sensitization on airport security procedures, such as the importance of switching off phones or using flight mode during takeoff. He also suggested a review of airport security procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Federal Government has taken steps to address the incident, including imposing a no-fly ban on Kwam 1 and suspending two ValueJet pilots involved in the incident. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has also petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and prosecute Kwam 1 for allegedly obstructing an aircraft.
