Global Outrage Over Israeli Airstrike on Al Jazeera Journalists

A devastating Israeli airstrike on Gaza City has sparked widespread condemnation and grief after killing six media personnel, including four Al Jazeera journalists and two freelance journalists.
The attack targeted a tent used by media workers outside al-Shifa Hospital, raising serious concerns about journalist safety in conflict zones.
The journalists killed were Al Jazeera correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh, camera operators Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal, and freelance journalists Moamen Aliwa, a cameraman, and Mohammed al-Khalidi. The Israeli military claimed Anas al-Sharif was a Hamas commander, but Al Jazeera and press freedom organizations vehemently rejected these claims, demanding verifiable evidence.
The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the attack, citing Israel’s documented pattern of accusing journalists of being terrorists without credible proof. CPJ Regional Director Sara Qudah emphasized that deliberately targeting journalists is a war crime under international law, stating, “Israel is murdering the messengers.”
This incident highlights the mounting risks faced by journalists in Gaza, where at least 192 journalists have been killed since the conflict escalated on October 7, 2023. The international community has rallied behind Al Jazeera and the journalists’ families, demanding justice and accountability for the tragic loss of life.
