Okpebholo Approves 500-Room Hostel for AAU Medical School

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the construction of a 500-room hostel for the medical school of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, in a move aimed at improving infrastructure and student welfare.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, disclosed the development on Tuesday during Okpebholo’s campaign tour of Iruekpen and Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area, ahead of the August 16 Edo Central Senatorial by-election.

Itua revealed that construction work on the project would commence in the coming weeks, quoting the governor as saying, “The Edo State Government will build a 500-bed hostel for the medical school in AAU, Ekpoma. In the coming weeks, we will mobilise contractors to the site.”

Okpebholo noted that one of his first actions as governor was to increase the university’s subvention to ₦500 million and to constitute its governing council, underscoring his administration’s commitment to education.

Reiterating his resolve to fulfill campaign promises, the governor urged party members to work towards delivering 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The campaign event drew key All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, including the State Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh; Edo Central Senatorial Leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd); Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor; and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Gani Audu.
