Army Kills Terror Commander, Foils Nationwide Attacks

Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed a notorious terrorist commander, Amirul Fiya, also known as Abu Nazir, and several of his fighters during a foiled attack in Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt Col Appolonia Anele, said in a statement on Sunday that the operation on August 7, 2025, was carried out by troops of 3 Battalion at Forward Operating Base Rann Kala. She noted that three terrorists, including Abu Nazir, were found dead after the attack was repelled, with blood trails suggesting others fled with injuries.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, unexploded ordnance, and two rocket-propelled grenades.
In a follow-up operation on August 9, troops working with the Civilian Joint Task Force and Hybrid Force discovered another terrorist corpse and seized a QJC 88-barrel gun, an anti-aircraft gun tripod, 20 rounds of 12.7 x 108mm ammunition, a backpack, and a bicycle.
Elsewhere, on August 8 in Zamfara State, troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 2 responded to intelligence on terrorist activities along Road Gusau–Kaura Namoda in Unguwar Sariki Musulmi, forcing the suspects to flee and rescuing two kidnapped victims.
In Ebonyi State on August 9, soldiers of 24 Special Engineer Regiment intervened in a communal clash between Iyimagwu and Ekpomaka communities in Ikwo LGA. They came under fire from an abandoned building, returned fire, and killed one armed suspect. Weapons recovered included a G3 rifle, 50 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 16 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and four hand grenades.
Anele said the Nigerian Army will sustain coordinated operations with other security agencies to maintain peace and security across the country.
