Nigerian Auctioneers Set Up Task Force to Curb Unwholesome Practices, Enforce Industry Best Practices

In a bid to sanitise the auctioneering industry and eliminate unauthorised operations, the Nigerian Auctioneers Group has inaugurated a National Task Force Committee.
The committee, led by David Omeike as its National Chairman, was announced in a statement by the National Caretaker and Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Association of Auctioneers (NAA). It comprises seasoned professionals in the sector.
According to the association, the task force is charged with the responsibility of enforcing compliance with the NAA constitution, its code of conduct, and operational guidelines. It will also ensure that only licensed and duly registered auctioneers are allowed to operate in Nigeria.
The committee’s broader mandate includes curbing sharp practices, preventing unauthorised auction activities, and collaborating with law enforcement and regulatory agencies. It will also aid in implementing resolutions of the Caretaker Committee and the National Executive Council of the association.
In addition to Omeike, members of the task force include Adeyemo Adeyemi, Sani Mohammed, Danladi Mamman, Isah Muhammed, Sanusi Ahmad, Tari Emberru, Ebube Jackson, Eddy Imo, Eze Abraham, Umah Argungu, and Abubakar Abdullahi, who will serve as secretary.
Omeike, a member of the association’s Lagos chapter, is also the Executive Director of the International Human Rights & Dignity Defenders’ Forum. He holds several professional titles, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (Supernumerary), certified private investigator, and member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, USA.
He previously served as Chairman of the NAA South-West Task Force and currently leads Cosmopolitan Security and Enquirers as Managing Director.
The NAA noted that the inauguration of the task force is part of ongoing reforms aimed at restructuring and professionalising auctioneering practices in Nigeria in line with global best practices. Alfred Diette-Spiff is the chair of the Board of Trustees of the NAA, who also served as the first NEC president of the association.
