Former IGP Okiro Sets Record Straight on Alleged Power Play

Retired Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, has dismissed claims that he is attempting to undermine the authority of current IGP Kayode Egbetokun. In a statement, Okiro’s media aide, Supreme Ibitomi, described the allegations as baseless and malicious.

According to Ibitomi, a recent gathering of former Inspectors General of Police was misconstrued by some quarters. The meeting, he explained, was aimed at discussing the compulsory retirement of some senior police officers and ensuring the welfare of police personnel.

Okiro emphasized that his role in the forum of former IGPs is to lead a team, not to exert undue influence over the current police leadership. He expressed confidence in Egbetokun’s ability to carry out his duties without external interference.

The former IGP assured that the forum will continue to promote harmony and advocate for the welfare of serving and retired police officers. He urged the public to focus on pressing national issues rather than spreading unfounded rumors.
