Breaking News: First Lady Doles out N1Billion to Fight Tuberculosis

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has pledged N1 billion to support efforts to end tuberculosis (TB) in Nigeria by 2030.

The announcement was made at a high-level meeting with stakeholders in the health sector, including representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other international partners.

 

Senator Tinubu, who has been a vocal advocate for improved healthcare in Nigeria, emphasized the need for collective action to tackle the scourge of TB, which claims thousands of lives in the country every year.

“Tuberculosis is a major public health concern in Nigeria, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that we provide the necessary resources to combat this disease.

 

“As the First Lady of Nigeria, I am committed to supporting the efforts of the Federal Government and other stakeholders to end TB in our country by 2030. This pledge of N1 billion is a demonstration of my commitment to this cause, and I urge other well-meaning Nigerians to join us in this fight,” she said.

The N1 billion pledge will be used to support various initiatives aimed at improving TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in Nigeria. These initiatives include the procurement of diagnostic equipment, training of healthcare workers, and awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of TB and the importance of early detection and treatment.

The WHO has welcomed Senator Tinubu’s pledge, describing it as a “game-changer” in the fight against TB in Nigeria. “We commend Senator Tinubu for her leadership and commitment to ending TB in Nigeria,” said a WHO spokesperson.

 

“This pledge will go a long way in supporting our efforts to improve TB services in the country and ultimately achieve our goal of ending TB by 2030.”

The Federal Ministry of Health has also expressed its gratitude to Senator Tinubu for her support, saying that the pledge will be used to strengthen the country’s TB control program.

 

“We are grateful to Senator Tinubu for her generous pledge, which will be used to support our efforts to improve TB diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in Nigeria,.

 

“We look forward to working with her and other stakeholders to achieve our goal of ending TB in Nigeria by 2030,” the ministry said.

Senator Tinubu’s pledge has been hailed as a major support in the fight against TB in Nigeria, and it is expected to inspire other individuals and organizations to join the effort to end the disease in the country. With the support of stakeholders like Senator Tinubu, Nigeria is one step closer to achieving its goal of ending TB by 2030.
