Northern Leaders Back ADC for 2027 Elections

The National Political Consultative Group (North) has endorsed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its preferred platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

According to Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and ADC chieftain, the decision was reached after representatives from all 19 Northern states converged on Abuja for the 3rd Expanded Meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North).

The meeting aimed to foster unity among Northern political leaders and strengthen collaboration to function as a cohesive interest group.

Lawal cited the Tinubu administration’s perceived neglect of the North’s concerns as a major reason for the group’s decision. The group has resolved to take matters into its own hands and work towards achieving solutions to the North’s problems.

Lawal expressed confidence that votes will count in the 2027 elections, dismissing fears of electoral malpractice. The ADC has been gaining momentum since its launch on July 1, 2025, with key opposition figures joining the party. The party’s leadership is working to secure the buy-in of the North and other regions.
