Two Shot During Demolition Protest in Abuja’s Karsana Community

Two individuals, identified as Sunday Danjuma and Jacob Audu, were shot by policemen deployed to quell a protest in Karsana community, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), over the demolition of houses.
The incident occurred when natives, whose homes were demolished, attempted to force their way into the community, prompting police to open fire.
The community chairman, Zakari Baba, confirmed that the police barred natives from entering the village to evacuate their properties, leading to a commotion.
Two natives sustained bullet wounds and are currently receiving treatment at Gwagwa health center. Hon Musa Dikko, Commissioner for Public Complaints Commission (PCC) representing the FCT, also confirmed the incident and stated that he had visited the community to calm down the tension.
Dikko disclosed that he had summoned the developer to the commission’s office to explain who gave the directive for the demolition. The FCT police command’s spokesman, SP Adeh Josephine, was unreachable for comment. AMAC Chairman, Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, had previously expressed outrage over the demolition, which affected the palace of the village chief, Yahaya Barde, and threatened to sue the developer.
