North Central APC Accord Roots for Senator Musa as National Party Chairman

A political advocacy faction within Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the North Central APC Accord, has officially endorsed Senator Mohammed Sani Musa as the party’s forthcoming national chairman.

In a statement released on Friday, signed by its President, Rev. Matthias Ikani, and Secretary General, Ambassador Moses Audu, the group extolled Senator Musa as the most unifying candidate for the party following Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation.

They urged President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership to allocate the national chairmanship to the North Central region, emphasizing fairness, party stability, and the necessity for internal cohesion.

The group asserted that since the party’s inception in 2013, the North Central has consistently been one of its most formidable electoral strongholds but has yet to produce a substantive national chairman.

They contended that the current vacancy presents an opportunity to rectify this imbalance.

“Since the era of the CPC-ACN merger, the North Central has secured pivotal victories for the APC, yet it has persistently been marginalized for the party’s senior positions. With the current vacancy, we believe Senator Musa is optimally positioned to propel the party forward,” the group declared.

Senator Musa, representing Niger East, currently presides over the Senate Committee on Finance and is esteemed by supporters as a seasoned legislator with a reputation for discipline and strategic acumen.

The North Central APC Accord asserted that Musa’s perceived impartiality and proven party loyalty render him a candidate capable of rebuilding internal trust and averting factional conflicts as the party gears up for the 2027 general elections.

They also made a direct appeal to President Tinubu to endorse their plea, characterizing the chairmanship as “not a gift but a matter of justice.”

“Our President has consistently championed inclusivity and internal democracy. Supporting a North Central candidate like Senator Musa aligns with those principles,” the statement articulated.

The group’s intervention arises amid intensifying discourse over zoning within the APC, as other geopolitical entities also vie for control of the national chairmanship.

In recent days, various youth and women’s organizations have joined the chorus advocating for Musa’s ascension, depicting him as a ‘servant leader’ with the appropriate temperament to administer party affairs in anticipation of 2027.

The APC has yet to officially disclose a timetable for filling the vacant national chairmanship position.
