Aregbesola’s Debts Were Not Reckless, Says Omoluabi Progressives

The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group with former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as its patron, has defended the debts incurred during his administration, insisting they were not the result of recklessness or financial indulgence.
The group made this known in a statement addressing recent criticisms of Aregbesola’s financial management while he governed Osun State from 2010 to 2018.
According to the group, the borrowings undertaken during his tenure were strategic and aimed at infrastructure development, not for personal gain or mismanagement.
“The debts were incurred for developmental purposes and were never borne out of recklessness or indulgence,” the group said.
The Omoluabi Progressives also noted that the projects executed under Aregbesola’s administration, including road constructions, education reforms, and urban renewal projects, were clear evidence of the loans being put to productive use.
The defense comes amid renewed political debates in Osun State regarding the financial burdens left by previous administrations. Governor Ademola Adeleke recently criticized the state’s debt profile, alleging mismanagement by his predecessors, a claim Aregbesola’s loyalists have repeatedly denied.
The Omoluabi Progressives called for a fair assessment of Aregbesola’s legacy, urging critics to consider the infrastructural strides made during his eight-year tenure.
