Buhari Was Uncomfortable With Politics But Gave It His All, Recalls Amina Mohammed

Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, has said that former President Muhammadu Buhari was never fully comfortable with the political process, but nonetheless gave his best during his time in office.

Mohammed made the remarks while reflecting on Buhari’s tenure during a recent interview.

She noted that although the former president found the political arena challenging due to his military background and personal disposition, he was committed to serving the country with sincerity.

“President Buhari was not a politician in the traditional sense. Politics did not come naturally to him, but he gave it his all because he believed in Nigeria,” Amina Mohammed said.

She further acknowledged the difficulties Buhari faced during his administration, especially in navigating governance in a complex and diverse nation like Nigeria.

Despite these challenges, she stated, Buhari remained focused on issues such as anti-corruption, infrastructure development, and security.

Buhari, a former military head of state, served two terms as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

Mohammed’s comments have since sparked discussions about the complexities of leadership in Nigeria and the personal sacrifices made by public office holders.
