FG Blames Technical Glitches for Delay in June Salaries of Workers

The Federal Government has attributed the delay in the payment of June 2025 salaries of some federal workers to technical glitches in its payment system, especially affecting civil servants with accounts at Zenith Bank.

In a statement issued on Thursday, July 11, by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), the government acknowledged the failure and said the issue occurred during the electronic salary payment processing. It explained that the system experienced an unexpected network error which disrupted the crediting of accounts for some employees.

The OAGF assured that it is working with all relevant stakeholders and service providers to promptly resolve the issue and ensure that affected civil servants receive their outstanding payments without further delay. It emphasized that the welfare of government employees remains a top priority and apologized for the inconvenience caused.

This salary delay has also had ripple effects in the education sector. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) earlier in the week directed its members to commence a nationwide strike under its “no pay, no work” policy, following the non-payment of June salaries to lecturers in federal universities.

The government is currently reprocessing all failed transactions, and Zenith Bank account holders among federal workers are urged to remain patient as efforts are being made to credit their accounts. Meanwhile, civil servants are encouraged to confirm their salary status through their respective MDAs and payroll units.

As the situation develops, workers and unions across sectors await swift action from the government to resolve all outstanding salary-related issues.
