NSCDC FCT Command Warns 532 Newly Trained Officers Against Misconduct, Weapons Misuse

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, on Wednesday warned 532 newly trained officers against misconduct and the irresponsible use of firearms.

Speaking during the Passing-Out Parade at the NSCDC FCT Command Headquarters in Wuse, Abuja, Odumosu said the Corps would not condone any form of unprofessional behavior, especially with regard to arms handling. He emphasized that accidental discharge is unacceptable, insisting that officers must always adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.

“There is nothing like accidental discharge in the NSCDC. Your rifle is as safe as you want it to be,” Odumosu stated, cautioning the officers to remain conscious of the power they wield.

He warned the personnel against becoming trigger-happy or using their weapons to intimidate members of the public, stressing that the Corps is built on discipline, integrity, and professionalism. Odumosu reminded the officers of their duty to protect lives and property, urging them to act with responsibility and restraint.

The Commandant also decried the growing tendency of lobbying for postings among officers, saying such actions go against the principles of service. He urged the new officers to embrace their assignments with dedication, regardless of their deployment location.

“Do not engage in lobbying for preferred postings. Every location is an opportunity to serve with excellence,” he said.

The officers are part of a new batch trained as part of the Command’s continuous efforts to enhance operational readiness and professionalism. Previous phases of the training had seen 280 and 137 personnel undergo similar capacity-building exercises.

Odumosu assured that the Command remains committed to upholding public trust and maintaining peace and security in the FCT. He called on members of the public to cooperate with the Corps as it discharges its mandate.

The ceremony was attended by senior NSCDC officers, stakeholders, and families of the graduating personnel, who are now expected to resume active duty across the territory.
