Auchi Poly Denies Peter Obi’s Claim of Students Death During Union Election

Auchi Polytechnic management has strongly denied claims by former presidential candidate Peter Obi that two students died during the institution’s student union election. Obi had alleged that the election turned violent, resulting in two fatalities and several injuries, based on a video showing students running for their lives amidst gunfire.

However, the polytechnic’s Director of Public Relations, Angela Egele, refuted the claims, stating that they were “false, misleading, and completely unfounded”. She emphasized that no student was shot, injured, or killed during the electoral process, which was monitored by multiple security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police, and State Security Service.

The institution has urged the public to disregard Obi’s statement, assuring that it remains committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. The election was declared inconclusive due to observed irregularities, and the school management has suspended all Students’ Union Government activities until further notice.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some calling for Obi to retract his statement and apologize, while others believe he may have been misinformed. Obi has not issued a follow-up statement addressing the polytechnic’s rebuttal.
