Anambra Police Commissioner Orders Clampdown on Unlawful Gatherings Amid Rising Cult Clashes
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered a comprehensive crackdown on all unlawful gatherings across the state, as security agencies intensify efforts to curb the growing threat of cult-related violence.
The directive comes in response to a worrying surge in cult supremacy battles in various parts of the state, which have resulted in loss of lives, injuries, and heightened insecurity in affected communities. CP Orutugu issued the order to all divisional police officers (DPOs), tactical teams, and area commanders, stressing the urgent need to identify and dismantle any group activities that may escalate into violence.
In a statement released by the Anambra State Police Command on Monday, the Commissioner emphasized that no individual or group would be allowed to undermine the peace and stability of the state under the guise of social gatherings or associations.
“We will not tolerate any form of unlawful assembly or cult-related activity that threatens the safety and well-being of law-abiding citizens. The Police Command is fully mobilized to identify and dismantle such groups and bring perpetrators to justice,” CP Orutugu warned.
The Command has also called on community leaders, parents, and religious institutions to support the police by sensitizing youths against involvement in cultism and criminal associations.
Residents have been urged to report suspicious activities and gatherings promptly through the state police emergency numbers, as the command assures of swift and decisive action to maintain law and order.
This latest development marks a renewed commitment by the Anambra Police to confront violent cult activities, which have remained a persistent security challenge in the state.
