No Amount of Insults Will Provoke Me, Vows Pastor Adeboye
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said that no amount of public insults or attacks would provoke him or derail his focus from his spiritual mission and calling.
Speaking during a sermon at the RCCG headquarters on Sunday, Pastor Adeboye addressed the growing wave of criticisms and personal attacks targeted at religious leaders, particularly on social media platforms.
The respected cleric, who has led the RCCG for over four decades, told his congregation that he remains unshaken and undistracted by such negativity.
“Let them insult me, I will not respond. No amount of insults will provoke me. I am doing what God asked me to do and I will continue to do so with all my heart,” Pastor Adeboye said, adding that those who focus on abusing men of God are only distracting themselves from greater personal growth.
Pastor Adeboye also advised his followers and other Christians across the nation to emulate Christ by maintaining calm in the face of opposition and criticism. According to him, a true child of God must never allow external noise to influence their spiritual journey or dedication to divine service.
“Jesus was insulted, mocked, and even crucified by people He came to save. If our Lord could remain calm and committed to His mission, then we have no excuse. We must fix our eyes on Him and refuse to be provoked by anyone,” he added.
The RCCG leader’s comments come amid rising public scrutiny and online criticism of Nigerian religious figures, many of whom have been accused of wielding undue political influence, flaunting wealth, or making controversial statements.
Pastor Adeboye, however, has often maintained a neutral stance in political matters and is widely regarded for his messages of peace, holiness, and national unity.
In his Sunday message, he reminded the congregation that insults are part of the burden of leadership and that such experiences only strengthen those who are spiritually grounded.
“You cannot carry divine responsibility and not face human resistance. But the Lord who called me knows how to defend His own. I don’t need to fight for myself; God will fight for me,” Adeboye said.
He further encouraged Nigerians not to join in spreading hate or attacking others, especially leaders, whether in the church or society. Instead, he called for prayers, humility, and compassion, urging believers to channel their energy toward building a godly nation.
Pastor Adeboye, who recently celebrated his 82nd birthday, continues to be one of Nigeria’s most influential religious leaders, with millions of followers in Nigeria and abroad. His message on Sunday is seen as a subtle but firm response to ongoing criticisms without mentioning any specific individual or incident.
As the RCCG prepares for its annual convention in August, Pastor Adeboye has reiterated his commitment to preaching the gospel and leading the church in prayer for Nigeria’s peace, progress, and spiritual revival.
