Tinubu Administration Puts Presidential Boeing Jet Up for Sale in Switzerland, Replaced with Airbus A330-200

The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially listed Nigeria’s ageing Boeing 737-700 Business Jet (BBJ) for sale in Switzerland.

The development comes as the government replaces the jet with a newer, more advanced Airbus A330-200, which has been recently acquired for presidential use.

The Boeing 737 BBJ, which had served multiple administrations, is reportedly being retired due to age, high maintenance costs, and growing concerns about its operational efficiency. Sources within the presidency confirmed that the decision to sell the aircraft aligns with President Tinubu’s broader cost-cutting and fleet modernization agenda.

The listing in Switzerland an international hub for aviation brokerage signals the administration’s intention to attract serious buyers on the global stage.

The BBJ is expected to fetch a competitive price due to its VIP configuration, though experts note that the market value may be affected by the aircraft’s age and current technical condition.

According to aviation insiders, the newly acquired Airbus A330-200 offers a longer range, improved fuel efficiency, and greater cabin space, making it more suitable for international diplomatic missions and long-haul travel.

The upgrade reflects the Tinubu government’s push to enhance Nigeria’s presidential mobility in line with global standards.

This move also comes amid growing scrutiny of the cost and size of the presidential air fleet. Over the years, calls for fleet reduction and improved transparency in the management of government assets have intensified.

The decision to sell the BBJ may be seen as a partial response to such public concerns, especially at a time when economic pressures and fiscal reforms dominate national discourse.

The Presidential Air Fleet, operated by the Nigerian Air Force, maintains aircraft for the president, vice president, and other senior government officials. With the arrival of the A330-200, further changes to the composition of the fleet may be anticipated as part of ongoing efforts to modernize and optimize government-owned aviation assets.
