Ex-Arsenal Star Thomas Partey Charged with Multiple Rape and Assault Offences

Former Arsenal and Ghana international footballer Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, the UK’s Metropolitan Police confirmed on Friday. The charges stem from complaints filed by three women and relate to incidents alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.

In a statement released on Friday, the Metropolitan Police said the 32-year-old was charged following an investigation launched in February 2022 after the first complaint was made. The rape allegations involve two of the women, while the sexual assault charge relates to a third.

“Thomas Partey, 32, has been charged with multiple serious sexual offences following a thorough investigation by our detectives,” said Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the case. “Our focus remains on ensuring that the women who have come forward receive the support they need. We urge anyone impacted by this case or who may have relevant information to contact police.”

Partey, who was charged just four days after his departure from North London club Arsenal, is scheduled to appear at a central London court on August 5.

In response to the charges, Partey’s legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, issued a statement on his behalf, asserting his innocence.

“Mr. Partey denies all the charges against him,” Wiltshire stated. “He has fully cooperated with the police and Crown Prosecution Service throughout their three-year investigation and now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
“Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further,” she added.

Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020, was a prominent member of the Ghana national team and widely regarded his contributions in midfield. His exit from Arsenal earlier this week has raised fresh speculation amid the developing legal proceedings.

The case has already drawn significant public and media attention, with advocacy groups calling for due process and support for all parties involved.

The Metropolitan Police emphasized that no further information would be released at this stage and reiterated the importance of respecting the judicial process.
