Senate Confirms Dakas, Okolocha for Nigerian Law Reform Commission as Alkali Declines

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed two nominees for the Nigerian Law Reform Commission (NLRC), Dakas Dakas as Chairman and Uchenna Okolocha as Commissioner, while Professor Fatima Alkali declined her appointment as Commissioner.
Alkali, who was nominated to represent the North-East, had communicated her rejection to the presidency before the screening exercise.
Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, presented the report and stated that the committee recommended replacing Alkali with another female nominee from the North-East to ensure gender balance.
The confirmed nominees, Dakas, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from the North-Central, and Okolocha from the South-South, were deemed “fit and proper persons” to assume their positions.
The committee found them to possess the necessary qualifications, experience, and integrity for the roles.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated the confirmed appointees, expressing confidence in their ability to strengthen Nigeria’s legal and justice system.
