Malami, Oyegun, Senators, Ex-Governors Attend Unveiling of Opposition Coalition Backed by ADC

A new political movement aiming to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election was formally unveiled today at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, with key political heavyweights in attendance.
The event marked the official declaration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the central platform for Nigeria’s opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
Among the prominent figures present were Abubakar Malami, the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation; John Odigie-Oyegun, former national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); and Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central.
Also spotted at the gathering were former governors, retired lawmakers, and political strategists from across party lines signalling growing momentum for a broad-based coalition against the incumbent president.
Speaking at the unveiling, ADC leaders described the coalition as a “united front to rescue Nigeria from economic hardship, insecurity, and democratic decline under the current APC administration.”
Though no formal declaration was made regarding a presidential candidate, sources within the movement suggest plans are underway to field a consensus candidate capable of unseating President Tinubu in 2027.
The event comes amid heightened political activity nationwide, with opposition figures working to consolidate their base and mobilize support well ahead of the next general elections.
