Tinubu, Atiku Are Good Friends, They May Be Visiting Each Other at Night, Says Orji Uzor Kalu
Former Abia State Governor and senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has said that President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remain good friends despite their public political rivalry, suggesting that both men may even be meeting privately at night.
Speaking during a recent interview on Channels Television, Kalu dismissed the idea of enmity between the two political heavyweights, noting that the tension displayed during elections is often just political drama.
“Atiku is Tinubu’s good friend, but they are playing politics,” he said. “I am sure they might even be exchanging visits in the night. Nobody knows.”
Kalu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), used the moment to highlight how Nigerian politicians often maintain cordial relationships behind closed doors regardless of party affiliations. He said many in the public wrongly assume that political opponents are enemies, while in reality, they often interact amicably outside the public eye.
“The Nigerian people are the ones fighting. Politicians are not fighting. We disagree during the day and settle at night. That’s the nature of politics,” he added.
Kalu also cited his own relationships with politicians across party lines as evidence that partisan affiliation should not be mistaken for personal hostility. He encouraged Nigerians to approach politics with understanding and avoid fueling divisions based on assumptions about political rivalries.
His comments have drawn mixed reactions across the country, with some citizens expressing surprise while others pointed to it as confirmation of the complex and often opaque nature of Nigerian politics.
