Obi’s Acceptance Soaring in Northern Nigeria, Claim Obidients

The Obidient Movement has declared that the acceptance of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is rapidly rising across Northern Nigeria, particularly in the North-East region.

In a statement issued in Gombe on Monday, the Global Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, revealed that the District Head of Pantami in Gombe State recently conferred the traditional title of “Sarkin Maskan Pantami” (Chief of Shelter and Peace) on Obi. The movement described the gesture as historic, noting it was the first time a southern politician would be honoured by an emirate in the North-East.

According to Yunusa, Obi’s growing acceptance is driven by his visible grassroots development efforts, particularly in underserved communities.

He said Obi’s team has initiated and executed several humanitarian projects, including borehole constructions, public toilet facilities, and Almajiri education centres in remote areas.

“In Pantami, the residents now refer to the water facility as ‘Peter Obi’s borehole’. That kind of emotional connection shows how deeply the people appreciate his efforts,” Yunusa said.

Despite Obi’s known preference for declining chieftaincy titles, the movement explained that the honour was accepted on his behalf as a mark of regional goodwill and traditional recognition.

The Obidient Movement stated that such gestures reflect a broader acceptance of Obi’s values, principles, and leadership qualities across the region.

Yunusa also reiterated Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027. He said the commitment to a single term of four years, from 2027 to 2031, demonstrates political sincerity and a desire to foster equity among Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

“Peter Obi has promised to serve just one term in office. He wants to rebuild the country, create the foundation for progress, and then give way for others. That’s the kind of leadership the North is embracing,” Yunusa added.

He emphasized that Obi’s support in the North is not limited to social media or elite circles but is grounded in real connections with ordinary citizens, traditional rulers, and community leaders.

“Peter Obi is no longer just a southern figure. He’s now being seen by many in the North as a Nigerian leader with genuine concern for all,” Yunusa said.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, analysts say the surge in Obi’s popularity in Northern Nigeria could reshape the political landscape and further challenge the dominance of traditional party structures in the region.
