Barcelona Announces Return to Camp Nou after Renovation Work on Facility

After years of renovation and expansion work, Barcelona has announced that they will be returning to their iconic Camp Nou stadium for a friendly match on August 10.

The traditional pre-season Joan Gamper Trophy match will mark the stadium’s partial reopening, with the Catalan giants set to play in front of their home fans for the first time in years.

The club confirmed in a statement that while the stadium is not yet fully complete, they are eager to return to their home ground and begin a new era. “Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era that will culminate with the complete inauguration of the new stadium,” the club said.

However, the return to Camp Nou will be a partial one, with construction work continuing in various areas of the stadium. The new third tier, dual VIP ring, roof installation, interior spaces, and surrounding area are all still underway. The club has not confirmed the initial capacity of the stadium, but local media reports suggest that the available stands can hold around 35,000 fans.

Barcelona has been playing their home games at the smaller Montjuic Olympic stadium while the renovation work has been taking place. The club has requested to play their first three La Liga games of the upcoming season away from home, giving them an additional month to continue work on the stadium.

The “Espai Barca” project, which began in 2023, has suffered several delays but is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026. Once finished, the stadium’s capacity will be boosted to 105,000, making it one of the largest in the world.

The return to Camp Nou is a significant milestone for the club, and fans are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to watch their team play in their iconic home stadium once again. While there is still work to be done, the partial reopening marks an exciting new chapter for Barcelona, and the club is looking forward to a bright future in their newly renovated home.
