Aiyedatiwa Inaugurates Olowo of Owo as Chairman Oba Council of Chiefs

In a ceremony held at the state capital, Akure, on Tuesday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State inaugurated the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, as the new chairman of the State Council of Obas.

The governor, who emphasized the importance of the traditional institution in the state, described it as the “bedrock of society” and a vital partner in the state’s pursuit of sustainable development.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to upholding and strengthening the traditional institution, stating that it is a priority for his government.

Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the council’s statutory responsibilities, which include advising the governor on matters relating to customary law, cultural affairs, inter-communal relations, and chieftaincy matters.

He also emphasized the need for the council to contribute to the maintenance of public order and broader policy issues affecting the traditional institution.

The governor charged the new council to provide visionary leadership and wise counsel to the state government, particularly on security, culture, grassroots development, and communal harmony.

He expressed his expectation for a council that will offer unbiased advice, stating that their collective wisdom is an invaluable asset that will be leveraged for the advancement of the state.

Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, the newly inaugurated chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, expressed his appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in him and other members of the council. He pledged to lead with integrity, fairness, and commitment to the advancement of the traditional institution in the state.

The Olowo of Owo also reaffirmed the council’s support for the government’s developmental agenda, which is centered on the ‘OUR EASE’ seven-point development agenda. He called on fellow monarchs to maintain harmony and uphold the values of their forebears.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders in the state. The event marked a new era in the relationship between the state government and the traditional institution, with a renewed commitment to working together for the development of Ondo State.
