Adamawa Government Strips Atiku Abubakar of Waziri Adamawa Title, Others Also Affected
The Adamawa State Government has announced the withdrawal of the prestigious traditional title of Waziri Adamawa from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The decision was reportedly reached following a review of the roles and conduct of certain title holders in the state’s traditional council.
In an official statement released on Monday, the government explained that the move was part of efforts to preserve the sanctity and integrity of the state’s traditional institutions, which it said must remain free from political controversies and actions considered contrary to the interests of the state.
Atiku Abubakar, who has held the Waziri Adamawa title—one of the most influential traditional positions in the Emirate—was among several individuals affected by the revocation of titles, according to the government.
However, the specific names of others impacted by the action were not immediately disclosed.
Sources within the Yola Emirate Council suggest that the development follows mounting pressure over political tensions and alleged conduct by some titleholders deemed inconsistent with the expectations of their roles.
As of the time of this report, Atiku Abubakar and his media team have not publicly reacted to the decision.
