Constitution Review: Senate to Hold Public Hearings in Geopolitical Zones

The Senate Committee on Review of 1999 Constitution has announced plans to hold public hearings on the proposed constitution amendments in all six geo-political zones of the country.

The hearings, which will take place simultaneously in six different locations, aim to gather inputs from citizens on the proposed amendments to the country’s constitution.

According to the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin, the public hearings will hold on July 4 and 5 in Lagos (South-West), Enugu (South-East), Ikot Ekpene (South-South), Jos (North-Central), Maiduguri (North-East), and Kano (North-West).

The move is part of the committee’s efforts to ensure that the views and opinions of Nigerians are taken into consideration in the constitution review process.

The public hearings provide an opportunity for citizens to contribute to the amendment process, which is expected to shape the country’s future.

The committee’s decision to hold the hearings in all six geo-political zones demonstrates its commitment to inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that the voices of Nigerians from all regions are heard.

Sen. Barau Jibrin emphasized the importance of citizen participation in the constitution review process, stating that the zonal public hearings are convened to gather the inputs of citizens on the proposed amendments.

The committee’s special adviser on media and publicity, Ismail Mudashir, issued a statement on Sunday, urging citizens to participate in the public hearings and make their contributions to the constitution review process.

The public hearings are expected to provide a platform for citizens to engage with the committee and express their views on the proposed amendments. The committee will then consider the inputs gathered during the hearings and use them to inform its decisions on the constitution review process.

With the public hearings scheduled to take place on July 4 and 5, citizens are encouraged to participate and make their voices heard in shaping the country’s future.
