Wike Commences Relocation of Apo Mechanics
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a significant step towards relocating the Apo Mechanics traders and dealers to their permanent site in Wassa District.
On Friday evening, Wike announced the establishment of a 7-member committee, which he will chair, to oversee the relocation process.
The committee, comprised of key stakeholders, including the Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC) and Directors of Development Control, Land, Urban and Regional Planning, Survey, and Resettlement and Compensation, will work together to ensure a seamless transition for the businesses.
According to Wike, the FCT Administration will provide essential infrastructure in Wassa, including roads, water, and electricity, to support the relocation. This move is expected to bring an end to the long-standing issue of the mechanics’ presence along the Outer Southern Expressway corridor, which has been a subject of concern since 2011.
Wike expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promise made by the President Bola Tinubu administration to relocate the traders and dealers, stating that previous administrations had failed to take action on the matter. The establishment of the committee marks a significant milestone in addressing the issue, and the minister has assured the mechanics and traders that the relocation process will be carried out in a fair and transparent manner.
The relocation of the Apo Mechanics to Wassa District is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and traffic flow in the area, and will also provide the traders and dealers with a more conducive and organized space to operate their businesses. With the committee in place, the FCT Administration is poised to deliver on its promise and bring relief to the affected stakeholders
