IPMAN Calls off Strike After Lagos Govt Agreed to Review Electronic Call-up Levy

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called off its strike action after the Lagos State Government agreed to engage in dialogue over the disputed N12,500 electronic call-up levy on tankers along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

The association’s decision follows a formal commitment from the state government to work towards an amicable resolution.

IPMAN had initiated the strike due to concerns that the levy would increase operational costs and potentially lead to fuel price hikes nationwide.

The association’s National Publicity Secretary, Chinedu Ukadike, had previously appealed for a reduction of the levy to N2,500, citing the need to prevent additional financial burdens on marketers and transporters.

The Lagos State Government introduced the electronic call-up system to regulate truck movements and reduce congestion along the Lekki-Epe corridor. However, stakeholders, including IPMAN and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), have expressed concerns about the impact of the levy on operational costs and fuel prices.

The decision to suspend the strike is expected to ease tensions between the Lagos State Government and stakeholders in the downstream sector. IPMAN has urged its members to remain united and vigilant as the leadership continues to negotiate a favorable outcome with the state government.
