First Lady Distributes Food Items to 250 Vulnerable Persons in Enugu

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has extended her food outreach programme to Enugu State, where she distributed food items to 250 vulnerable individuals including widows, persons with disabilities, and the economically disadvantaged.

The distribution was carried out under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a humanitarian programme spearheaded by the First Lady to provide relief to Nigeria’s most vulnerable populations. Beneficiaries at the Enugu event received packages containing staple items such as rice, noodles, semovita, spaghetti, baby food, groundnut oil, tomato paste, and other essentials.

Representing the First Lady at the event was the wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Nkechiyere Mbah, who described the outreach as a timely intervention.

She praised Senator Tinubu’s efforts in addressing food insecurity and assured residents that more palliatives would be extended to those who are yet to benefit.

“This initiative is a testament to the compassion and resolve of the First Lady to stand with our people during challenging times. We commend her for remembering our people and taking deliberate steps to support the vulnerable,” Mrs. Mbah said.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Gideon Eze, Public Relations Officer of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) in Enugu, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the gesture. He also used the opportunity to call on the state government to create a disability commission that will ensure more structured support for people with disabilities.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Ogadimma Chime, a widow, expressed her appreciation for the assistance, noting that the food items would help ease the burden of caring for her family amid the rising cost of living.

The First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative Food Outreach has reached several states across the country, including Abia, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory. The programme aims to alleviate hunger and hardship by delivering food support to the most affected Nigerians.

Officials reiterated the First Lady’s commitment to sustaining the outreach and ensuring that the support continues to reach those most in need across all regions of the country.
