Opposition Coalition Claims APC, Wike Jittery, Fearful
The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that the growing strength of Nigeria’s opposition coalition has sent shockwaves of fear through the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its allies, including former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike.
According to Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to Atiku Abubakar, the APC and its supporters are panicked about the potential of the coalition to unseat the current administration in the 2027 general elections.
In an exclusive interview with Vanguard on Sunday in Abuja, Ibe claimed that the APC’s resort to baseless attacks on the coalition is a clear indication of their fear.
“They’re scared because they know the coalition represents a formidable platform that could remove this administration,” he stated. Ibe emphasized that the coalition embodies the aspirations of Nigerians, who are seeking a platform to end the perceived failures of the current government.
The opposition coalition, which is gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, is being positioned as a strong force capable of challenging the APC’s dominance. Ibe’s comments suggest that the APC and its allies, including Wike, are aware of the coalition’s potential and are attempting to discredit it through baseless attacks.
However, Ibe remains confident that the coalition will continue to gain strength, despite attempts to undermine it.
“Even if some leaders defect to their political party, the reality is that Nigerians are defecting to the coalition,” he said.
This statement implies that the coalition is attracting widespread support from Nigerians, who are seeking a change from the current administration.
The development has significant implications for the 2027 general elections, as the opposition coalition appears to be gaining traction.
The APC, which has been in power since 2015, is facing growing criticism over its handling of the economy, security, and other key issues. The emergence of a strong opposition coalition could potentially threaten the APC’s chances of retaining power in 2027.
