Super Falcons Dispatch Cameroon Lionesses 2-0

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have secured a convincing 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a friendly international match played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Tuesday.

The match, which was initially scheduled to be one of two friendly encounters between the two teams, saw Rashidat Ajibade steal the show with a brace that sealed the victory for the Nigerian side.

The first goal came in the 28th minute when Ajibade won a penalty and successfully converted it, giving Nigeria the lead. The Super Falcons continued to press on, with Ajibade, who recently parted ways with Atlético Madrid, leading the charge.

Despite the Cameroonian defense putting up a good fight, Ajibade struck again just two minutes before halftime, courtesy of a sublime pass from Omorinsola Babajide. The forward’s strike past the goalkeeper gave Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the break.

The second half saw the visitors attempt to mount a comeback, but the Super Falcons’ defense held firm. In a thrilling moment, the reigning CAF female goalkeeper of the year made a stunning save deep into added time to deny Cameroon a consolation goal.

The win marks the Super Falcons’ 15th victory over their neighbors in 21 games and serves as a confidence booster as they prepare for the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled to kick off in Morocco early next month.

The match was initially supposed to be one of two friendly encounters between the two teams, but Cameroon’s delayed arrival in Nigeria meant that only one game was played. Nevertheless, the Super Falcons will be pleased with the outcome and the valuable match practice ahead of the upcoming WAFCON tournament.
