Tinubu’s Adoption as 2027 APC Flagbeareris out of Panic, Says CUPP
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has criticized the early adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, describing it as a clear sign of panic and internal instability within the ruling party.
In a statement released on Wednesday, CUPP spokesperson, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, said the APC’s move to endorse Tinubu over two years before the election reveals a deep-seated fear of defeat and growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians.
“The hurried adoption of President Tinubu as the 2027 presidential candidate by the APC is a sign that the party is rattled and unsure of its future.
“Rather than focus on governance and delivering on campaign promises, the ruling party is now preoccupied with retaining power at all costs,” Ugochinyere stated.
The CUPP accused the APC leadership of abandoning democratic processes by shutting down internal debate and stifling potential aspirants within its ranks.
According to the coalition, the move undermines internal party democracy and is intended to intimidate dissenting voices.
“The Nigerian people deserve better than a recycled political agenda driven by fear of electoral loss. It’s clear that the APC is afraid of a united opposition and the growing discontent across the country, ” the CUPP spokesman added.
Although the APC has not issued an official response to the CUPP’s allegations, insiders within the party argue that President Tinubu remains the most formidable and unifying figure within the APC, citing his extensive political experience and nationwide influence.
Political analysts suggest that the early endorsement could be a strategic attempt by the APC to consolidate internal support and discourage defections, especially amid growing economic and security challenges in the country.
As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the political landscape appears to be heating up, with both the ruling party and opposition coalitions making early moves in what promises to be a fiercely contested election cycle.
