Ikeja, Lagos Island, Lekki Top Lagos Crime Hotspots, Reveals Attorney General, Pedro
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), has revealed that Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki are the top three crime hotspots in Lagos, based on data from the Lagos State Criminal Information System (LCIS).
Speaking during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, Mr. Pedro noted that the data was compiled from reports generated by the LCIS, which tracks criminal cases across the state.
According to the statistics, Lekki leads with 13% of reported cases, while Ikeja and Lagos Island follow closely, highlighting growing security concerns in these economically and socially vibrant areas.
Pedro explained that despite the perception of safety in certain parts of Lagos, criminal activities such as theft, cybercrime, and armed robbery remain prevalent.
He emphasized that the state government is intensifying efforts to address these issues through justice sector reforms and improved coordination with law enforcement agencies.
Stealing was identified as the most commonly reported crime, accounting for 44% of total entries. It was followed by offences related to breach of peace at 15%, armed robbery at 10%, and sexual offences at 5%, many involving underage victims.
The Attorney General reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the administration of justice.
He mentioned ongoing efforts to enhance access to legal services, speed up case resolution, and deploy technology to support court operations and policing.
Mr. Pedro also called for greater public awareness and community involvement in security matters, urging residents to be proactive in reporting crimes and supporting law enforcement.
While reassuring Lagosians of the government’s resolve to make the state safer, he acknowledged that the rising crime rates demand a collaborative approach involving citizens, security agencies, and the judiciary.
As the state continues to expand in population and economic activity, tackling crime hotspots like Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Lekki has become a top priority for the administration.
The Lagos State Government says it will continue to deploy strategic interventions aimed at curbing criminal activity and improving public safety.
