Judge Warns Ejimakor,.Nnamdi Kanu’s Counsel Against Unprofessional Conduct

Abuja Federal High Court Judge, Justice James Omotosho has issued a stern warning to Aloy Ejimakor, a lawyer representing Nnamdi Kanu, the self-proclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, over unprofessional behavior on social media.
The judge cautioned that such actions could result in Ejimakor’s disbarment, emphasizing the need for lawyers to maintain professional standards.
The warning came after Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, the lead prosecutor, raised concerns about the defense team’s alleged misconduct, including live-streaming trial proceedings and posting misleading information online.
Awomolo described these actions as “embarrassing” and urged the court to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Kanu Agabi, the lead defense counsel, apologized to the court and the prosecution for the alleged transgressions.
Justice Omotosho, however, stressed the importance of focusing on the case at hand, rather than getting distracted by external factors. He drew parallels with a previous case involving 50 suspected IPOB members, which he had presided over and successfully expedited, despite attempts to delay proceedings.
The judge also cautioned against spreading false information about the trial on social media, noting that some individuals were exploiting the case for personal gain.
He advised all counsel to avoid distractions and maintain their focus on the case.
Meanwhile, the cross-examination of the second prosecution witness, a Department of State Services operative codenamed Mr. BBB, continued. Paul Erokoro, a senior lawyer representing the defense, questioned the witness about the operations of Radio Biafra and the DSS’s methods of intelligence gathering.
The witness revealed that the agency utilizes various sources, including human intelligence and social media, but declined to disclose specific details about their methods.
When asked about Nnamdi Kanu’s claim of being kidnapped in Kenya, the witness confirmed that Kanu had made such a statement but clarified that verifying its accuracy was not part of his duties.
The witness also stated that the DSS does not have the authority to conduct arrests outside Nigeria’s borders and denied any involvement in Kanu’s alleged abduction in Kenya.
