Nasarawa State Receives ₦9.75 Billion Refund from FG After Takeover of Lafia Cargo Airpot

The Nasarawa State Government has confirmed the receipt of ₦9.75 billion from the Federal Government as a refund for the takeover of the Lafia Cargo Airport.

The refund follows the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request by the Senate for the issuance of promissory notes to Nasarawa and Kebbi States.

The move comes after the Federal Government assumed control of airports initially built and funded by the state governments.

Governor Abdullahi Sule made the announcement during a media briefing, where he outlined the state’s plan to deploy the refunded funds into critical infrastructure development across the state.

“Every penny in this money, I want to be able to account for it. I am not giving any consultant to collect this money for me. I am doing it myself. I am the consultant,” Governor Sule stated.

According to the governor, the funds will be channeled into several major projects, including:

Completion of the Kwandere/Marke bypass
Dualization of the Keffi road
Construction of the Adudu/Azara road
Completion of key ongoing projects in Lafia, Akwanga, and Doma
Construction of a new market in Nasarawa Town
The Lafia Cargo Airport, originally initiated and financed by the Nasarawa State Government, was recently converted into a federal security airport under the control of the Nigerian Air Force. The Senate’s approval of the reimbursement signifies the Federal Government’s recognition of state contributions to national infrastructure.

Governor Sule emphasized that transparency and accountability will guide the disbursement of the funds to ensure that the people of Nasarawa State derive maximum benefit from the refund.

This development is expected to accelerate the completion of key infrastructure projects and boost economic activities across the state.
