JAMB Takes Over HND Admissions in Polytechnics, Says NBTE
The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will henceforth coordinate admissions into Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in polytechnics across Nigeria.
The new arrangement is aimed at creating a centralized admission system for HND candidates, improving transparency and ensuring uniform admission procedures among polytechnic institutions nationwide.
According to the NBTE, the move is expected to enhance data management, strengthen regulatory oversight and eliminate irregularities associated with the admission process.
Under the framework, prospective HND applicants will process their admissions through JAMB, similar to the existing system used for admissions into National Diploma and other tertiary programmes.
The board noted that the initiative would provide a more coordinated admission structure and ensure that records of admitted students are properly documented through a central platform.
Stakeholders in the technical education sector have described the development as a significant step toward improving accountability and standardizing admission practices across polytechnics.
The policy is expected to take effect from the new academic session, with further guidelines to be issued to institutions and prospective candidates on the implementation process.
