Governor Mutfwang Pledges Comprehensive Reforms to Revitalize Plateau Civil Service

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to overhauling the Plateau State civil service, promising to introduce far-reaching reforms aimed at enhancing productivity, accountability, and service delivery.

Speaking during a recent engagement with stakeholders, Governor Mutfwang highlighted the urgent need to address longstanding inefficiencies in the system, including widespread absenteeism and lack of discipline among civil servants.

He emphasized that the reforms would be people-centered and designed to foster a more efficient and professional workforce.

“The civil service is the engine room of government, and we cannot afford to have it running below capacity.

“We will implement policies and systems that will not only eliminate absenteeism and laxity but also reward diligence and excellence,” the governor stated.

As part of the reform agenda, the Mutfwang-led administration has already made significant strides. It recently cleared over N11 billion in salary arrears owed to civil servants, a move widely praised by labour unions and the public.

The state government has also pledged to settle the N30 billion backlog of pensions and gratuities, restoring hope to thousands of retirees.

To support these efforts, the Plateau State Civil Service Commission has been charged with developing monitoring and evaluation mechanisms that ensure workers adhere to their responsibilities.

The administration has also initiated capacity-building programs, including a series of trainings focused on improving routine office procedures and service delivery standards.

In addition, Governor Mutfwang has ordered a review of all recent civil service appointments to ensure due process was followed and directed retired officers occupying government positions to vacate them immediately.

The governor noted that infrastructure upgrades are underway in key government offices to create a more conducive work environment, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to raising the standard of public service in the state.

“These reforms are not just about efficiency. They are about restoring dignity to public service and ensuring that the people of Plateau State receive the quality of governance they deserve,” Mutfwang said.

The administration’s proactive approach has been widely seen as a bold step toward restoring trust and professionalism in Plateau State’s civil service.
