Former Lawmaker, Gubernatorial Aspirant Defects from Labour Party to APC

A former federal lawmaker and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Daniel Asuquo, has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Asuquo’s move is expected to bolster the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections, with the party poised to capitalize on his influence and network.
During a grand reception ceremony held at the APC secretariat in Calabar, Asuquo expressed his admiration for Governor Bassey Otu’s administration, citing its commitment to the people’s welfare and development.
He also praised the governor’s leadership style, which he believes has endeared him to the party and the people.
Asuquo’s defection is seen as a strategic move to align himself with the APC’s vision for the state, which he believes will unlock its economic potential and propel it to greater heights. With his arrival, the party is expected to gain a significant boost in terms of manpower, resources, and electoral prospects.
The APC State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, welcomed Asuquo into the party, commending him for following the due process and registering as a member at the ward level.
Eba tasked Asuquo to be instrumental in the party’s affairs, leveraging his experience and influence to drive the party’s agenda and ensure its success in the forthcoming elections.
Asuquo’s prediction of a landslide victory for the APC in the 2027 elections, with a projected 500,000 votes for Governor Otu and President Bola Tinubu, has sent a strong signal to the party’s opponents.
The APC is now poised to dominate the state’s political landscape, with Asuquo’s defection marking a significant turning point in the party’s fortunes.
